Announcing prod.sandbox.orkut.com, a production-like environment
August 19th, 2008 | Published in Google Orkut
We're getting ready to start deploying support for OpenSocial v0.8 on the orkut sandbox. Since there are some significant changes with v0.8, we've created prod.sandbox.orkut.com to help you maintain your existing apps, while using the sandbox to test new features.
There are only two differences between prod.sandbox.orkut.com and the real deal:
- Your app can only access information about users that have been whitelisted for the sandbox.
- You can install any app (not just those approved for the directory) by entering the URL in the Edit applications page.
Going forward, you should use prod.sandbox.orkut.com for testing and debugging the apps you're running in production. We will keep this environment stable and in sync with www.orkut.com.
The developer sandbox, sandbox.orkut.com, will be a bleeding edge environment. Updates to the JavaScript API and server-to-server APIs defined in OpenSocial v0.8 will be released on the sandbox first. While we're rolling out these changes, please help us find issues buy reporting bugs in the public issue tracker.
Keep an eye on this blog for updates on when OpenSocial v0.8 features will be available for testing on the sandbox.
