OpenSocial v0.8 is defined
May 28th, 2008 | Published in Google OpenSocial
Good news: OpenSocial v0.8 has been fully specified! This represents the next evolution of the OpenSocial API, which was scoped, specified, and built via an open process run by the community. The best news is that OpenSocial v0.8 includes a RESTful API which enables non-JavaScript app development as well as things like server sync, or even mobile app creation. In addition to the RESTful API, there have been some functionality enhancements and convenience methods added to the JavaScript API. Check out the OpenSocial v0.8 Release Notes for the full details.
With the spec finalized, Apache Shindig is well on its way implementing OpenSocial v0.8, so expect to see containers supporting it in the coming weeks and months.
For now, if you’re building apps using the OpenSocial API, stick with any of the containers supporting OpenSocial v0.7 as listed on the Getting Started Guide.
