A Friendly Reminder on Unique Product Identifiers
August 18th, 2010 | Published in Google Merchant
As we announced a few weeks ago, product offers in the Electronics, Books, and Media categories from US merchants may not appear in Product Search if your data feed does not include the relevant unique product identifiers (UPIs), such as MPN, Brand, GTIN/UPC/EAN or ISBN. We plan on making this change towards the end of this month in the US, so we urge all merchants who sell items in those three categories to begin including these identifiers wherever possible to avoid losing traffic from Product Search.
In the case of products which don't have certain unique identifiers, we will have an exception-request process in place when we make the change. These requests will be reviewed after submission. Please note that if some merchants are able to include unique identifiers for a given product, we may not list submissions for that product from merchants who do not include the relevant identifiers.
