New ways to automate business processes with Google Apps Script
May 18th, 2010 | Published in Google Apps, Google Docs
Google Apps Script helps businesses customize and extend Google Apps and automate their own standard processes. Some new functionality has now been released.
New functionality:
Data interoperability through JDBC (Java Database Connectivity): Google Apps Scripts can now connect to any MySQL database, including business databases running on servers behind firewalls.
Custom user interfaces for scripts: Google Apps Premier Edition users can now script graphical interface elements and menus.
Standalone invocation of scripts: It’s now possible to call a script from any website, so you’re able to build web pages where users can submit entries that will be collected in a Google spreadsheet.
More integrations with other Google properties: New integrations with Google Docs and Google Maps add the ability to create and modify files in the Google Documents List and retrieve directions from Google Maps.
Editions included:
Standard, Premier, Education, Team and Partner Editions
Languages included:
Supported in 40+ languages
How to access what's new:
- Access the Google spreadsheets editor, click on ‘Tools’, then ‘Scripts’ to manage, insert or access the Script editor.
