In their own words, Next Stop Design is "an experiment in 'crowdsourcing' the best ideas and designs to build a better bus stop". The website lets anyone submit a design in any medium (even pencil and paper are A-OK), and also encourages folks to try SketchUp if they're game for trying out 3D modeling. Check out some of the entries; they're neat.

University of Utah Teepee by hopkinp

A reminder (while we're on the subject of online design submissions): We launched the Design IT: Shelter Competition a couple of weeks ago. This wasn't a competition, so I won't be announcing any winners, but here's a web gallery with images of some of our favorites. For those of you who would rather sit back and watch, the ever-changing image at the top of this post runs though them all.

One more thing: a not-insignificant number of the sleighs submitted came from active members of the SketchUp 3D Challenge. These talented folks from around the world build models every week in response to a different subject -- this week's is to design a Star Wars podracer. If you want to hone your SketchUp skills, or you just want a forum for gathering tips and feedback about your work, you should definitely check it out.

What's new? It's all about networking: We now show you other models you might like, based on the model you're viewing. This makes it much easier to find and explore other models by the same author, as well as collections that contain the models you're interested in. Our new map view (click on the "Map" tab above the model image preview) shows models that are geographically close to the one you're considering. It's my pleasure to announce Style Builder (Beta) for SketchUp Pro 6. With this version, you can use Style Builder to build sketchy-edge Styles from scratch. To get started, you create a template of strokes in any image editor (like Adobe Photoshop), then you import that template into Style Builder. You can use anything to make strokes: scanned charcoal, graphite, gouache -- if you can get it into your computer, you can turn it into a stroke for Style Builder.

The application itself is a plug-in for SketchUp Pro 6, and it's available for both Windows and Mac OS X. It's in beta, which means we'd appreciate your help to get it ready for general release. It's also only available in English for now. Not an easy task, to be sure. The drilling process involves taking samples from deep, deep, underground, analyzing their precious metal content, and having geologists figure out if the area is worth turning into a mine. Given the time of year, I started with Saint Nick himself. That model was successful, so I worked on some reindeer next. (Did I mention that I love my job?)

Having modeled Santa and his magical herd, I'm opening up the next part of the project to the rest of the world: Santa needs a sleigh. Anyone (young, old, young at heart) is invited to design a sleigh for Santa. I've created a collection in the 3D Warehouse to host the designs. Feel free to use the Santa and reindeer models that I built to dress up your sleigh -- it'll provide me with a legitimate reason for having spent so much time creating them.

To submit your sleigh, here's what you need to do:

Upload it to the 3D Warehouse using your own account. Take a look at the second half of this Help Center article for instructions.

Make sure to include the following tag: santa2007 (check out the following image to see what I mean)

Every couple of days until December 31st, I'll add all the models in the 3D Warehouse that are labeled with the above tag to the Model Santa's Sleigh collection. Even if you're not submitting anything, you can check out the collection and comment on the models that folks have uploaded. Sometime early in January, I'll post to this blog with a sampling of sleighs from modelers around the world, and the crème de la crème will get top billing in January's SketchUpdate newsletter.

One more thing: Feel free not to stick within the bounds of what most people would consider a "traditional" design. Santa's sleigh is magical, after all. It's possible that it doesn't look anything like any of these.
Update Changed the deadline for submission of sleighs to December 31st.

Posted by Aidan Chopra, Product Evangelist

As more and more of what folks do on the computer involves interacting with a 3D environment, I predict we'll see a whole pile of new input devices coming onto the market. Mice were invented for a 2D digital experience; the mouse I use now is basically the same as the one I was using ten years ago.

There's a relatively new company called Sandio Technology that's come up with a way for makers of mice and other input devices (like keyboards and trackballs) to incorporate 3D interaction into their products. A few months ago, Sandio launched a new mouse, the Sandio 3D Game O2, that showcases its technology. It's a snazzy-looking little object, and it works with SketchUp, Google Earth, Second Life and a host of other applications and games. Here's some of what Sandio says about their mouse with respect to SketchUp:

The 3D mouse is an input device that acts as a regular 2D mouse but also provides 6 degrees of freedom in 3D environments.

The included software is very easy to use and includes a plug-in autoloading driver to run with Google Sketchup. When you open Google SketchUp, the driver automatically opens and, using the 3D buttons of the 3D mouse, you can manipulate the camera or an object in different directions. By default, the driver begins in Camera Mode.

In Camera Mode, you are able to shift the camera any direction, left or right, up or down, and zoom in and out using only the 3D buttons on the mouse. You can even rotate or roll the camera, and pitch it different ways. The driver has a toolbar with 6 icons in Google Sketchup that will allow the user to turn on or off different degrees of movement or decide on what axis they are rotating on.

In Object Mode, the user has even more options. If you highlight a cube, for example, and do not make it a Group, you can twist or pull the object in different directions. Making it a group will let you slide an object left to right, pull it towards you or push it away from you, move it up or down, and again, with the different options on the toolbar, either rotate, roll, or pitch the object around the axis or else rotate, roll, and pitch the object on its own axis.

I haven't tried Sandio's mouse yet, but I thought it looked interesting enough to mention here. If you have one, please comment below to let us know what you think.
Update The folks at Sandio have just informed me that if you use the promo code "sketchup" on their web store, you'll save $20 on their device.

Posted by Brad Askins, Quality Assurance Engineer

Apple released a new version of its operating system a couple of weeks ago, and it seems as though lots of SketchUp and Mac users are upgrading. We've received a few questions from folks wondering about the interaction between Mac OS 10.5 Leopard and Google SketchUp 6, so we wrote a Help Center article that addresses these questions. In brief, there are still some known issues related to using SketchUp's Google Earth-compatibility features:

SketchUp may crash when clicking the "Get Current View" button, or by clicking "Tools" > "Google Earth" > "Get Current View."

Clicking the "Place Model" button, or clicking "Tools" > "Google Earth" > "Place Model" will do nothing on a Mac with a PowerPC processor. SketchUp will appear to have not processed the request. To work around this issue, we suggest the following steps:

         Click "File" > "Export" > "3D Model..."

Choose "Google Earth 4 (*kmz)" from the "Format" drop-down menu.

Enter a file name and click "Export."

Open Google Earth and click "File" > "Open."

Browse to and select the KMZ file you created and click "Open."

Leopard users can't change which font is used by the 3D Text tool.

Please know that we're working on the problems, and we'll let you know as soon as they are resolved.

Posted by Aidan Chopra, Product Evangelist

Back before we had a blog, we'd include Tips & Tricks in the SketchUpdate e-newsletter we sent (and still send) around every so often. Recently, it occurred to me that some folks might find it useful to have them in a more "readily-bookmarkable" form; namely, this blog. Without further ado, here's the first of our Vintage SketchUp Tips & Tricks. I hope you find it helpful.

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. They're wrong. The sincerest form of flattery is to find yourself included in a SketchUp model as a 2D Face-Me component. Building photo-real, custom people for SketchUp isn't all that hard; it requires a little bit of time and a photo-editing program like Photoshop, but it's a great way to set your SKP apart from all the others. Including a client's family in a model of their new house is very impressive -- if you're lucky, they'll be too distracted to notice that you had to value-engineer away their swimming pool.

Note: The images that follow were created with SketchUp 5, which used yellow as the default color for selected entities. SketchUp 6 (which is the current version) uses blue.

Step 1: Making 2D Face-Me people is easier if you start off with the right kind of picture.

Step 2: Use photo-editing software (such as Photoshop) to cut out your subject, then save the image as a PNG with a transparent background. This earlier post contains instructions on how to do so.

Step 3: In SketchUp, Import the PNG you just created into a new file. Here's some of what's new in Podium 1.5:

It's faster - Most users can expect a speed improvement of 15 to 20%.

HDR output - This format provides more post-processing options if you're also using an image editor like Photoshop.

Presets - By grouping together complicated settings (like Irradiance Gradients and Trace Refractions) into easier-to-understand presets, it's simpler to get good results without knowing what everything does.

Transparent/translucent images - Now you can use images with transparent areas (think of the spaces in a chain-link fence).

Bumpmaps - The texture of some materials is bumpy, and these bumps cast shadows and reflect light. Textures with bumpmaps look more realistic when rendered.

No more reversed faces - You don't have to spend time making sure your model's faces are right-side-out; Podium 1.5 can render both sides of SketchUp's faces.

Check out this Podium 1.5 info page for all the details. The terrific images above are from Pete Stopple. You can find out more about his project in this thread from the Podium user forum.

There's more good news, actually: The free trial version of Podium 1.5 (which restricts your output resolution to a maximum of 500 x 500 pixels) doesn't time out -- you can use it forever.
Posted by Aidan Chopra, Product Evangelist

I received an interesting question from a gentleman in Greece the other day; he was trying to use SketchUp's nifty photo-matching feature to build a model based on this rendered image of a building. Needless to say, he didn't have any luck. To get the photo-matching feature to work, your image needs to be uncropped. That's why lots of renderings, magazine images and pictures from architecture books don't work; they've been re-framed. Why should this matter? It has something to do with re-positioning the center of the image. SketchUp's photo-matching feature works by assuming that the center of your image is also the image's "center of projection" (where the camera was pointing when you took the picture). When you crop an image, you move its center.

There is, of course, an exception to the "No Cropped Pictures" rule when matching a photo: If your picture has been cropped by an even amount on each side, or by an even amount top and bottom, the center of projection is maintained, and thus everything will work just fine.

Update Clarified the exception to the "No Cropped Pictures" rule in the last paragraph.

Posted by Tom Wyman, Market Development Manager

When we set out to create SketchUp, we had a pretty good idea of who would use it. Architects, basically. For conceptual design. And we were right -- partly. As it turns out, there were a few uses that caught us by surprise: landscape architecture, video game design, fine arts, civil engineering, wedding cake design, book illustrations, set design, film previsualization, industrial design, urban planning, woodworking, medical instrument design, coin design (one of the "state" quarters), treehouse design... you get the idea.

It looks like it's time to add one more to the list (and this one may be the most fun of all): SketchUp is also an application for kids with autism.

A couple of years ago we learned that SketchUp can be an amazingly powerful tool in the hands of children with autism. Since stumbling across this bit of information, we have worked with parents, educators and kids to learn how SketchUp plays to the visual and spatial strengths often possessed by those on the autism spectrum. Siblings (and SketchUp aficionados) Meg and Casey may have said it best: "SketchUp is a great program and we're glad it exists to open the door into minds full of pictures". Indeed. From the literal to the imaginative, the pictures in these minds are as varied as the minds themselves:

It's been great fun to see how different kids respond to SketchUp. For many, it's a creative outlet and an opportunity to express themselves. For some, it's a source of self-esteem, and for others, it offers all that and a life skill as well. Thanks to the combined efforts of families, schools, our local autism society, the University of Colorado and a dedicated team of Googlers, we are proud to launch Project Spectrum. Our purpose is to connect people on the autism spectrum with free software and learning materials so that they can "open the door into minds full of pictures".

Check out this video to learn more about Meg, Casey, and Project Spectrum:

It's a building energy analysis plugin for SketchUp created by Greenspace Research, and it allows SketchUp users to perform an energy analysis by adding attributes to their model and then connecting the data to the GreenBuildingStudio web service, which returns an energy report. Check out the video to see it in action:

A tool that empowers designers in the conceptual phase, the stage in which they are able to have the greatest impact on the building's carbon footprint, is a big step towards building more efficient buildings. According to Greenspace, here's what the plugin lets you do:

Assign properties to surfaces (e.g. surface types, opening types)

Identify enclosed spaces (e.g. rooms)

Assign surfaces to spaces

Check contiguity to make sure that selected faces are enclosed

Integrate with the UK and US versions of Green Building Studio to allow for localized energy reports

Import existing gbXML files (gbXML is an industry wide standard and has been adopted by some of the leading CAD vendors such as Autodesk, Graphisoft, and Bentley)

Export Sketchup models as gbXML

Export Sketchup models directly to GBS for instant analysis

Attractive 3D user interface using Rich Internet Application technologies including Adobe Flash and Flex

The plugin is currently in beta, and Greenspace Research is currently looking for beta testers. Visit them for more information or to sign up for the beta program.
Posted by Tyson Kartchner, Learning Guru

Video tutorials have been part of the SketchUp experience since... well, for quite a long time. SketchUp has grown a lot since then, and since we try our best to keep up, we're very happy to announce our latest and greatest additions to our existing videos. We've created two new series of videos: One is aimed specifically at new SketchUp users, and the other showcases every tool available through the toolbar. You can find all our new videos on our YouTube channel.

And we aren't stopping there -- we're working on covering as many features and capabilities of SketchUp as we can. We'll be uploading the videos as we go, so be sure to subscribe to our channel to be notified whenever there's a new one. Just so you know, we're currently working on some cool SketchUp technique videos, as well as more in-depth videos on LayOut. Stay tuned!

One more thing: Here's a cool video we uploaded about a month ago:

It's called SceneCaster, and it lets anyone with a Windows computer (a Mac version is due next year) create interactive, 3D "scenes" that they can share with the world. The folks at SceneCaster have even created an application for Facebook. Scenes can be rooms or (eventually) outdoor spaces, and you populate them with 3D models that you find online. In fact, one major source of models is our very own 3D Warehouse, which makes SceneCaster a great accompaniment to SketchUp.

If you get a chance to try it out, come back and comment on this post -- let us know what you think.

It's basically an AutoCAD-compatible (and thus Windows-only) drawing application for landscape architects that also happens to work with SketchUp. You can use it to create a link between a 2D view of your project in Land F/X and a 3D model in SketchUp. The integration allows you to design your project in one application and have it update in the other – pretty neat. As part of the package, the folks at Land F/X have even provided more than 200 SketchUp tree and shrub components that you can use.

You can get more info and see how Land F/X integrates with SketchUp by going to the website. If you're interested, you should also check out some of their excellent videos: Designing with 3-D and Assign 3-D Components are both particularly relevant to SketchUp users.

It seems that lots of timber frame builders are using SketchUp to help them figure things out and sell projects to clients. So much so, in fact, that Clark has gone ahead and written a few Ruby scripts specifically for timber framing. Here's how he describes what one of them does:

"If you create a tenon sub-component on the end of a timber component, and then butt that timber up against another timber, the script will automatically copy the tenon into the other timber to create the mortise. So as you make changes to your frame design, the joinery moves around with you automatically. It also generates material lists and shop drawings."

Even better, Clark's Rubies are available on his website for free. Too cool. Speaking of timber framing, Jack McClellen of Thornapple Timberframe is another timber framer who uses SketchUp. I mention him here because he's been helping us get the word out since 2001, and friendship like that deserves attention. Check out Jack's site when you get a chance.
Update Corrected the spelling of Mr. McClellen's last name. Deepest apologies.

I built a model of my sofa a while ago, and I wanted to add it to the Seating library (which I got by downloading the Architecture Bonus Pack) on my computer system. This is how to do it (click on the image above to make it bigger):

Open the SketchUp file with the component you want to copy into a library. In my case, this was the model of my house that includes my couch.

Choose Window > Components from the menu bar to open the Component browser.

In the Component browser, click the In Model button (it looks like a little house) to show the In Model library for the SketchUp file you have open. This library contains all the components in your model.

Click the Display Secondary Selection Pane button (in the upper-right corner of the Component browser) to show the Secondary Selection Pane.

In the Secondary Selection Pane, use the Library drop-down list to choose the library into which you want to copy your component.

Drag your component from the In Model library to the library in the Secondary Selection Pane. You've just made a copy.

Click the Display Secondary Selection Pane button again to close the Secondary Selection Pane.

Now your component is available for you to use in any SketchUp file you're working on. Neat, huh?

It led me to wonder if there might be a connection between working on computers all day and not being good at sports. My experience in high school certainly supported this hypothesis.

So I was pleasantly surprised when I received news from our own Mike S. that he and Tyson K. had not only entered a doubles volleyball tournament, but had actually won the whole kit and caboodle. Not only that, but their four-player team won, too. Tyson's follow-up email was typically modest:

AND...we proudly wore our bright Google socks the whole season. People were asking for those socks, and we delivered...in the form of blistering hard spikes!

Though I am proud of their achievement, I can't say I'm altogether surprised. Mike and Tyson are each over six feet tall, and together weigh more than my car. On behalf of everyone at Google Boulder, I offer heartfelt congratulations to the conquering champions of amateur v-ball – your rippling muscles will live in office lore for ever and always.

One question for our heroes: Would you both please (pretty please) join our kickball team next spring? We're awfully tired of losing.

Most people don't even know it's possible to assign different colors to edges in a SketchUp model; I'll admit that I didn't until more than a year after I started working here. Coloring your edges is easy once you know the trick:

Choose Window > Styles from the menu bar to open the Styles dialog box.

Select the Edit tab in Styles.

Select the Edge panel in the Edit tab; it's the one on the far left that looks like a wireframe box.

In the Color drop-down menu, switch from All Same to By Material.

Use the Paint Bucket tool to paint your edges whatever color (or colors) you choose.

Keep in mind that because the By Material edge color setting is technically part of Styles, and most Styles use the All Same setting, your edges will usually go back to being all-black if you apply another Style. Don't despair – your edges appear black, but SketchUp remembers what color you chose to make them. All you have to do is follow the above steps to switch back to By Material and you'll be all set.
Update Added an image to make things clearer.

He used it on a pretty amazing project, so I thought I'd pass it along to you too. In Andrija's own words (his English is terrific, despite what he thinks):

"A couple of weeks ago I got a pretty interesting challenge in my firm. An historic building in the strict center of Zagreb was renovating, and when they put (that big thing around the building, to prevent bricks falling on the pedestrians;-) (excuse my bad English;-) around the building, it becomes most expensive place for putting the commercial ;-)

Ok, since I work in the biggest corporation in Eastern Europe, we had to put some kind of a commercial up there. The idea was to take a high-resolution picture of the building, and implement our logo on it. The problem was there was no such picture, and work on the building already started, so we couldn't go there and take the new photo.

Ok. "Can you make a photo-real rendering of this building, based on the partially-accurate blueprints?" my boss asked? I said, "No, I cannot ;-)". "What is the time note (deadline)?" 3 days.

Ok, It would not be the problem to do the photo-real rendering of a normal resolution, but, maaaan, this is a 30 x 10 meters + 20 x 10 meters rendering. I did some calculation, and I came up with 12,000 x 4,500 pixel resolution. It took me 10 hours of modeling, 2 hours of texturing, and 20 hours of rendering to complete this giant job. The size of the TIFF was 390 MB, the size of the JPEG was 39 MB... yeah, huge pics ;-)"

Andrija ended up exporting his SketchUp model into 3ds Max to do the final rendering.
Posted by Aidan Chopra, Product Evangelist

I was fiddling around with a SketchUp model the other day, and the need arose to give it a graphic frame. I wanted to be able to apply a colored border, a logo, a title and some instructions that would be visible to people who view my model in SketchUp. It turned out that the easiest way to do this was with Watermarks, a new feature we introduced in SketchUp 6. Here's one of the models I created with my newfound technique.

A little background: Watermarks are basically graphic layers that you can apply to your model view. They can be underlays, meaning they appear behind your model, or overlays, meaning they show up in front. You control Watermarks by using the Styles dialog box, which lives in the Window menu.

First, I created the image for my Watermark. I used Photoshop because that's what I know, but any software that lets you export a PNG with an alpha channel will work. An alpha channel is a special layer of information that describes which parts of an image are transparent. Because I wanted my graphic frame for SketchUp to have a hole in it (so I could see my model through it), I needed to create an image with a transparent area in the middle – kind of like a doughnut. Here's a simple way to create the right kind of image:

Open (or create) your image file in an image editor (like Photoshop).

If your image contains multiple layers, flatten it (make a single layer).

Duplicate that layer.

Delete the original layer (the one on the bottom).

Select the area that should be transparent in your PNG (the doughnut-hole, if you will).

Press Delete to get rid of the pixels you selected in Step 5.

Choose Save As from the File menu, and save your image as a PNG file.

After I created my image, the next step was to use it to create a Style with a Watermark in SketchUp. Here's how to do that:

In SketchUp, open the model file to which you want to add a Watermark.

Choose Window > Styles from the menu bar to open the Styles dialog box.

In the Styles dialog box, click the Edit tab.

Choose the Watermark Settings panel (the fourth button from the right in the Edit tab).

Click the Add Watermark button (it looks like a plus sign).

In the dialog box that appears, choose the PNG you created earlier and click Open.

In the next dialog box, choose Overlay and click Next.

In the next dialog box, click Next again.

In the next dialog box, choose Stretched to fit the entire window, make sure Lock Aspect Ratio is selected, and click Finish.

Click the Create New Style button (in the upper-right corner of the Styles dialog box) to create a new Style with the Watermark you just created.

Now, any time you want to see your model with your Watermark, all you have to do is select the Style you just created. To save a view of your model with the Watermark applied, create a Scene that you can return to anytime. One area of the U.S. where green design has really taken a strong foothold is San Francisco, and one of the best examples is Michelle Kaufmann Designs. I met Michelle and her team about a year ago, through an effort to highlight green design on our 3D Warehouse.
Posted by Chris Dizon, SketchUp Account Manager

In last September's SketchUpdate, we mentioned a very cool (though PC-only) product called the Hypercosm Teleporter. Basically, it allows you to securely embed a SketchUp model into a web page and navigate (orbit, pan and zoom) just like you can in SketchUp. Too cool!

The Hypercosm team has apparently been quite busy; they've made some big feature enhancements for the professional community that focus on better collaboration and communication. These include new annotation tools, a measure tool, an email tool, and more. You should also take a look at the Skin feature of the Teleporter. It's a great way to publish the SketchUp model in your own custom web page. If you're on a Windows computer, you can check out some of their example models in their SketchUp Model Gallery.

Posted by Aidan Chopra, Product Evangelist

Some of you might know about LayOut, the all-new 2D presentation tool that we developed to accompany SketchUp. It's included with SketchUp Pro 6; if you don't already have it, you can download a free trial of Pro 6 to give it a spin.

Anyhow, I thought it might be a good time to write a Tips and Tricks post about the newest member of our family. Lots of folks are using LayOut, but a little extra help never hurts. In addition to this post, you can get started with LayOut in a number of different ways; check out this Help Center article for more information.

This post deals with how to get the right kind of top view of your model once you've placed it in LayOut. If you've ever tried to do it, you know exactly what I'm talking about—top views are almost always rotated awkwardly by default, and that's usually not what you want. Most of the time, you want the straight lines in your top view to line up with the edges of your page. The following image shows what I'm talking about: on the left is a view with a rotated top view; on the right, one where the model is "lined up".

As always, there's a nifty trick for getting the second (and more desirable) kind of top view. It involves one extra step: choosing to view your model from the front, back, left or right first, then choosing top. In doing so, you're telling LayOut which way to rotate your top view; the software always produces a top view by spinning the model "towards you".

Here are the steps, for the next time you need to do it yourself:

Insert a SketchUp model into your LayOut document.

Right-click on the model view that you just inserted and choose Standard View > Right (or Left, Front or Back) from the context menu.

Right-click again on the model view and choose Standard Views > Top.

If you want an orthographic (no perspective) view of your model, right-click again on the model and make sure Perspective is deselected.

If you're a college or university student in either country, this is your opportunity to show off your university. All you have to do is model your campus buildings in Google SketchUp, geo-reference them in Google Earth, and submit them through the SketchUp competition website. The winning teams will earn eternal online glory and an all-expenses-paid visit to our office in Sydney.

To enter the competition, you must be a college or university student in Australia or New Zealand, and you must be at least 18 years old. You can take on the project yourself or enlist the help of your classmates, and to do your best possible work, we suggest that you have a faculty advisor. The deadline for entries is October 31st, 2007.

We've recruited a really great panel of judges to help us determine the winners, including Andrew Carter of Utile Design, Karl May of Turner & Associates, and Andrew Maynard of Andrew Maynard Architects. Visit the competition website to learn more about best practices, see example models, and peruse a whole pile of Frequently Asked Questions.

You might not know that a similar Sketchup Competition just ended in the U.S. and Canada; you can read all about it. Check out the winning models, and get ready for some friendly, cross-Pacific rivalry.

We can't wait to see what you create. Good luck and happy sketching!

There's a new tool from CADalytic Media called SpecifiCAD that lets you do exactly that. Basically, SpecifiCAD is a plug-in (it's a free beta download for now) that works with SketchUp, and also AutoCAD, Revit, and Bentley Architecture (ArchiCAD is coming soon).

Once it's installed and activated, clicking on certain components in your model pops open a SpecifiCAD window that shows you all the content from the Sweets Network and the Google 3D Warehouse that matches. You can then choose a "specific" to replace the "generic" in your model. Check out the website for all the details.

Posted by Aidan Chopra, Product Evangelist

I want to make sure that everyone who gives a hoot about SketchUp knows about the terrific podcasts that the folks at School are putting together. Called The SketchUp Show, there are currently almost 30 episodes available. You can sign up for the podcast on iTunes (which delivers them directly to your computer), or just watch them on the School website. Either way, I defy you not to learn something from these guys. My favorite episode (though I have to admit that I haven't watched them all) is number 20, where they talk about (and demonstrate) how to build a model from an imported CAD file. Solid gold.

Incidentally, School is also giving away cool 3D Connexion Space Navigators to people who do any of five different things. If you'd like a new tool, check out the contest details.
