For the past several months we've been working with partners who are leveraging the tools of Google Talk's open platform. Sony has just announced that its new WiFi device will feature Google Talk. The mylo communicator will be hitting stores in September.

The Sony mylo (short for "my life online") is a sleek handheld device that allows you to access a fun set of features from a WiFi network. With 1GB of memory you can store music and photos, browse the web, or use email and IM (the QWERTY keyboard comes in handy here). The mylo comes with built-in Google Talk IM support so you can see who's online and available, manage your contacts, and hold multiple chat conversations at once. It also features quick access to Gmail.

Look for the mylo in September. I can't wait to get my hands on one! When they are available in a few weeks, I'll head to the Sony Store at the Metreon on my street to get an update.

Mary Himinkool
New Business Development

Nokia has just announced that the upcoming N770 Internet Tablet OS release will include Google Talk. The WiFi device enables Google Talk messaging and VoIP calls between N770 tablets and PCs (or of course with other N770s). You just connect to a WiFi network, then chat or place free calls using Google Talk as you normally would. Except now you can do so from cafes, airports, schools, offices - from any WiFi hotspot or network - without your PC.

This is the first device of its kind to leverage both XMPP and Libjingle to bring quality mobile calling to Google Talk users. I just tried and it sounds great! It's exciting to put communications directly in the hands of users no matter where they are.

Since the launch of Google Talk, we've received a steady stream of inquiries about IM and VoIP for mobile. We believe in the value of an open communications platform that puts tools in the creative hands of developers who understand what their mobile users want. I've been working with many who are building fun and impressive applications on this platform and I'm excited to see these results continue to unveil. We invite device manufacturers and developers alike to leverage these tools.

Looking forward to what the rest of this year will hold!

Mary Himinkool
New Business Development

Back in January, we mentioned that RIM was working on a downloadable Google Talk client for the BlackBerry. Now it's here! Download Google Talk for BlackBerry devices (most commonly accessed via your BlackBerry). You can still access email and other BlackBerry applications while you chat or manage your Google Talk Friends list. This is available today for U.S. and Canada-based service providers, but stay tuned for updates on additional releases.

Hats off to the RIM team for enabling more people to chat on the go. It's great to see these useful developments on Google Talk's open platform and I can't wait to see what's next!

Mary Himinkool
New Business Development

I was at CES last week with the Google Talk team and several people asked me if Google Talk would be available on cell phones and other mobile devices. I said absolutely, since that's one of the goals of the open platform on which we built Google Talk. We believe that users should have their choice in client, platform, and service provider. We'd like them to have the ability to communicate on the devices they find most useful.

Email is my primary means of communicating, so I'm an avid Blackberry user. For those quick conversations though, IM sometimes fits the bill better. It's a bit more personal and often more efficient. Now I can have both. I'm particularly excited to see Research in Motion announce Google Talk for Blackberry, taking communication one step further with useful features like the integration of IM and the email inbox. The ability to manage contact lists and view buddy presence is also useful and I am much more likely to stay in touch with my friends and coworkers now in hand. The client will be available for download in about a month.

As I continue to work with many Google Talk partners, I'm thrilled to see so many rich ideas and innovations from the developer community. It's so rewarding to work on a product that begins with solid vision and broadens as a result of the community's creativity. I look forward to seeing what we can continue to achieve together.

Mary Himinkool
New Business Development
